Rollerball pen in African Mahogany from W2180 Railway carriage
Railway carriage wood
This hand turned Rollerball pen is dressed in African Mahogany taken from railway carriage W2180 complemented with gun metal coloured fittings.
Features a quality Schmidt ceramic rollerball with a fine tip and measures approximately 135mm long and 15mm at the widest part.
Handmade in African Mahogany wood taken from the side panel support rails during restoration. The wood was removed as the joints were found to have rotted where they were jointed with the uprights.
W2180 coach was built for British Railways (Western Region) in 1950 by Metropolitan-Cammel Carriage and Wagon Co. Ltd to a Hawksworth design. Now undergoing a full renovation and is being rebuilt as a GWR Buffet to be used by South Devon Railway.
The wood is African Mahogany which was used widely for this type of work along with boat building. Each pen will be made to order so will vary slightly as each piece of wood is unique. Normal turn around in two working days.
All pens are handmade by me beginning with rough cut woods for the body. The body of the pen is turned on a lathe to the final shape as seen on each pen. The body is then sanded, sealed, waxed and polished to its final finish. Assembly is completed by using pre-made high quality pen components for long lasting performance and reliability.
