HMS Hermes (R12) pencil
Stunning mechanical pencil handmade in Teak removed from HMS Hermes during the dismantling work being carried out in India. HMS Hermes was in service with the Royal Navy from 1959 to 1984. Famously serving as the flagship during the Falklands war in 1982.
She was decommissioned in 1984 and sold to be used by the Indian Navy in 1986. She was renamed to INS Viraat and served until 2017. Following a number of failed attempts to save the ship, dismantling started in the Autumn of 2021.
The pencil is finished with chrome coloured fittings. Each pencil will vary slightly as no two pieces of wood have quite the same grain pattern.
This is a beautiful quality handmade pencil. The comfortable shape in the hand is complemented by the wonderful natural feel and warmth of the wood with a traditional wax finish.
The pen makes use of standard 0.7mm lead refills. The pen will be shipped in the card case as pictured, along with a certificate giving details of the wood.
All pens are handmade by me beginning with rough cut woods for the body. The body of the pen is turned on a lathe to the final shape as seen on each pen. The body is then sanded, sealed, waxed and polished to its final finish. Assembly is completed by using pre-made high quality pen components for long lasting performance.
