HMS Britannia Teak Bookmark
Bookmark handmade in Teak taken from HMS Britannia, former training ship moored at Dartmouth from 1869 until towed away and broken up in 1916.
The wood to make the pen was obtained from a book stand made originally when the ship was broken up in 1916. A lot of the wood from broken ships was used to make souvenirs. I have so far seen Ink wells Desk pen stands, tables and book cases made with the wood from HMS Britannia and also a number of other ships broken around the same time.
The bookmarks are finished with either chrome or gold plating. Having an overall length of around 50mm.
The book mark will be shipped in the velvet style pouch pictured with a small certificate giving details of the wood.
All items are handmade by me beginning with rough cut woods for the body. The wood is then sanded, sealed, waxed and polished to its final finish. Assembly is completed by using pre-made high quality components for long lasting performance.
