W2180 railway coach pen

Railway gift idea, Unique railway gift for anyone with a love of railways. Handmade wooden ballpoint twist pen handmade in African Mahogany wood taken from the side panel support rails during restoration. The wood was removed as the joints were found to have rotted where they were jointed with the uprights. The wood is complemented by Gun metal and chrome coloured fittings. It has W2180 engraved as shown in the photographs.

W2180 coach was built for British Railways (Western Region) in 1950 by Metropolitan-Cammel Carriage and Wagon Co. Ltd to a Hawksworth design. Now undergoing a full renovation and is being rebuilt as a GWR Buffet to be used by South Devon Railway.

The wood is African Mahogany which was used widely for this type of work along with boat building.

Each pen will be made to order, as wood is a natural product each pen will vary very slightly from the one pictured. Each pen will vary slightly as no two pieces of wood are quite the same.

The pen accepts standard Parker type refills which are widely available. It includes a high quality refill with black ink. It will be shipped in the case pictured, along with a small certificate giving details of the wood.

All pens are handmade by me beginning with rough cut woods for the body. The body of the pen is turned on a lathe to the final shape as seen on each pen. The body is then sanded, sealed, waxed and polished to its final finish. Assembly is completed by using pre-made high quality pen components for long lasting performance.
