The wood was taken from Phoenix Wharf Plymouth during the restoration in preparation for the Mayflower 400 celebrations in the city in 2020.
The Emigration Depot in Plymouth was constructed in 1847 encompassing most of the area around the original Mayflower steps. Phoenix Wharf was used from 1847 for over 50 years to allow the loading of passengers bound for a new life in America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The Emigration depot was one of the most popular in the uK as it had some of the best facilities to house up to around one thousand emigrants while awaiting passage. At its height a record of 1800 people left in a single week.
