W2180 Railway carriage wood

This hand turned fountain pen is dressed in African Mahogany taken from railway carriage W2180 complemented with Gun metal, Gold or Chrome coloured fittings.

Handmade in African Mahogany wood taken from the side panel support rails during restoration. The wood was removed as the joints were found to have rotted where they were jointed with the uprights.

W2180 coach was built for British Railways (Western Region) in 1950 by Metropolitan-Cammel Carriage and Wagon Co. Ltd to a Hawksworth design. Now undergoing a full renovation and is being rebuilt as a GWR Buffet to be used by South Devon Railway.

Features a medium nib and measures approximately 135mm long and 15mm at the widest part. The pen is postable to allow the cap to be mounted on the end while in use. The pen will be shipped in a recyclable black card box as pictured along with a small certificate giving details of the wood. Each pen is made to order and will vary slightly as no two pieces of wood are quite the same.

The wood is African Mahogany which was used widely for this type of work along with boat building.

All pens are handmade by me beginning with rough cut woods for the body. The body of the pen is turned on a lathe to the final shape as seen on each pen. The body is then sanded, sealed, waxed and polished to its final finish. Assembly is completed by using pre-made high quality pen components for long lasting performance and reliability.
